Non-Criminal Appearances
Adoption, Civil, Small Claims, Family Law & Probate
California Rules of Court (CRC), rule 3.672 and Code of Civil Procedure (CCP) § 367.75 have implemented specific procedures and requirements for parties appearing remotely in civil matters. The Lassen Superior Court will adhere to CRC 3.672 and CCP § 367.75 for remote civil proceedings.
This section does not pertain to remote appearances in case types identified in CCP § 367.76(a)(1), see the relevant section below for information in these case types.
Parties can request a Remote Appearance in these non-criminal proceedings by using Judicial Council forms RA-010 and RA-015 pursuant to CRC 3.672 and CCP § 367.75. Parties are required to reference the CRC 3.672 and CCP § 367.75 for service and filing requirements.

Once the requirements outlined above have been completed, proceed by following the procedures provided in the Tips, Procedures & Connection Details section located at the bottom of this page. After you have filed the necessary forms for a Domestic Violence or Gun Violence Restraining Order and have received them back from the court, or if you have received copies of forms where someone is seeking a restraining order against you, you will have been assigned a court date. (The court date can be found on the DV-109 or GV-109 - Notice of Court Hearing form.) For this court hearing, you have the option to appear remotely by following the information provided below.

Domestic Violence & Gun Violence Restraining Order Petition Appearances
Domestic Violence Restraining Order Appearances: Pursuant to Family Code § 6308, the Court permits remote appearances for parties, support persons as defined in Family Code § 6303, or witnesses appearing at a hearing on a petition for a domestic violence restraining order.
Gun Violence Restraining Order Appearances: Pursuant to Penal Code § 18123, the Court permits remote appearances for parties or witnesses appearing at a hearing on a petition for a gun violence restraining order.

Traffic Court Appearances
The Court generally allows remote appearances in Traffic Infraction cases without judicial approval. If you are planning on appearing remotely, you must follow the procedures below:
Traffic Arraignment Calendar
If you wish to appear remotely at your traffic arraignment proceeding, you must submit the electronic Traffic Add-On Request form no later than the Friday before your appearance date.
Note: This form is required to be submitted no later than the Friday before your appearance date. Submission of this form will indicate to the court your intention to appear remotely for your traffic arraignment proceeding - adding your case to the traffic arraignment calendar. Failure to submit as directed will result in your case not being added to the calendar.
After you have submitted the Traffic Add-On Request form, proceed by following the procedures provided in the Tips, Procedures & Connection Details section located at the bottom of this page. This section contains further tips, procedures, and connection details that you will need to follow on the date of your remote appearance in traffic court.

Further Proceedings & Traffic Court Trials
If you have a mandatory appearance date in traffic court, have previously scheduled further proceedings, or have a Traffic Court Trial you may appear remotely. Follow the procedures provided in the Tips, Procedures & Connection Details section located at the bottom of this page. This section contains further tips, procedures, and connection details that you will need to follow on the date of your remote appearance.
Criminal Appearances
Misdemeanors, Felonies & Witnesses
This section does not apply to mentally disordered offender, commitment, competency, placement and revocation, and other proceedings identified in CCP § 367.76(a)(1). See the relevant section below for information in these proceedings.
Misdemeanors
- Defendants may appear remotely in all misdemeanor proceedings except misdemeanor jury and court trials.
- Attorneys may appear remotely if the court finds it appropriate and practicable.
Felonies
- Defendants may appear remotely in all felony proceedings except trials and sentencing, unless the court allows the waiver of defendant’s presence for noncritical portions of felony trials where no testimonial evidence is taken. Remote proceedings are allowed in post-conviction relief proceedings and as otherwise provided by law.
- Attorneys may appear remotely if the court finds it appropriate and practicable.
Witnesses
- Witnesses may appear remotely for misdemeanor and felony proceedings – except for felony trials and only with the consent of both parties and the court.
- Witnesses may appear remotely as otherwise allowed by statutes for the closed-circuit examination of victims of sexual crimes and conditional examinations of witnesses.
You can attend criminal hearings as outlined above by video using Zoom unless otherwise ordered by the court. If at any time during a remote proceeding the judicial officer determines that a personal appearance is necessary, the court may continue the matter and require a personal appearance.

Juvenile Dependency Appearances
California Rules of Court (CRC), rule 3.672 and Code of Civil Procedure (CCP) § 367.75 outline specific procedures for parties appearing remotely in juvenile dependency matters.

Remote appearances in juvenile justice proceedings identified in Welfare and Institutions Code §§ 601 and 602 will be permitted by the court as covered and as detailed in Welfare and Institutions Code § 679.5.
If at any time during a remote proceeding the judicial officer determines that an in-person appearance is necessary, the court may require such an appearance and continue the matter.

Remote appearances in proceedings identified in Code of Civil Procedure § 367.76(a)(1) will be permitted by the court as covered and as detailed in the CCP section.
